“shiva for anne” The Afterlife Trilogy, Part III

For the past ten years Berlin based Swiss composer Mela Meierhans has been concerned with lamentations for the death and mourning rituals in the monotheist religions and cultures Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Being a frontierswoman par excellence she created The Afterlife Trilogy during this time. After the first two parts were successfully staged („Tante Hänsi“ MaerzMusik 2006, „Rithaa“ MaerzMusik 2010), she is now concluding the trilogy with „Shiva for Anne“, a music theater piece dealing with mourning and remembrance in the Jewish culture. There it says: three days of crying, seven days of lamentation, thirty days of mourning. During Shiva the relatives stay at home for seven days and receive visits of condolence; it is a time during which memories are exchanged.
